Dear RFS Electricity Users,
This is an important reminder for all Rural Free State (RFS) clients and electricity users in the Mafube Local Municipality. We are still in the Expensive Electricity Period, which lasts from June 1 to August 30 every year.
During this time, electricity costs more, and people tend to use more electricity because it's winter. This leads to higher electricity bills.
What You Need to Know:
Price Increase: Starting from July 1, 2024, the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) approved a 10.76% electricity price increase for Mafube.
Winter Tariffs: June, July, and August are considered the winter tariff period. During this time, the cost of electricity almost doubles across the country.
No Loadshedding: Last winter, we had loadshedding for about 25% to 30% of the time. This year, Eskom has not implemented any loadshedding so far. This means that people are using more electricity than last year.
How to Save Money:
Use electricity sparingly.
Try to avoid using electricity during peak times: from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM in the morning and from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the evening. Electricity is most expensive during these times.
Remember, the less electricity you use, the less you will pay. This expensive period will only last until the end of August. From September, your electricity costs will go back to normal summer tariffs.
